January's Guest DJs: Ralph & Al Kinsella
Friday 5th December’s Review
Well the start of the Christmas holiday period, yet sadly it’s the last one of the year at Soul at Joe’s.
This December started off with a big push on my daughters part and produced a beautiful baby girl
Our first grandchild for me and carol and she weighed 10lbs 14oz a bit of a bouncer
Thanks to all our friends for their kind words and nice presents, so I got a bit tipsy on Friday wetting the
Baby’s head as they say, but hey! you don’t become a Grandparent every day of the week.
Anyway back to business, Sue was eager to start playing, (having missed the previous month because she’d booked for the Soul in the Sun where she had a great time) she did a top spot and once again the punters gave her a well deserved applause.
Freddy T. on next and Fred, played a complete different set from last month, some great tunes R&B ish Style:- ( Red Beans & Rice…That Driving Beat, Billy Davis …Stanky & Tyrone Davis…I Found Myself While I lost You,) Fred’s has settled in the second spot very well.
Me next and I played a spot either side of the guest DJs, and Moz and I opened with some Motown
Four Tops….Shake Me Wake Me, the Temp’s…Get Ready, Isley Bro’s…Why When Your Love Is Gone, Contours… Hit And Run, Marv Johnson…I Miss you M. Gaye… Too Busy Thinking About My Baby which got them dancing straight away, and finished of with some Atlantic and Stax Stuff
Chain Of Fools ..Aretha See-Saw …Don Covey, Things Get Better and Bring It On Home To Me
Eddie Floyd & Otis Redding … Respect
I then introduced the Guest DJs: Ste Jones & Mike Walker from the new Tetley Soul Club Warrington.
Mike Walker & Ste Jones Set was full of the tunes that have them dancing at Joes, lots of the old stuff
Brill tunes and played some hot floorfillers tunes from the present time, thanks guys a great set of nostalgia
That’s what most punters want a few drinks a Bit of a chinwag and lots of dancing.
The Christmas Raffle was next and always goes down well 13 prizes this year so lots of happy winners.
Moz took the guest DJs off who always get a great round of applause thanks lads see you at Tetley’s Walker Club on the 21st Well how do you follow that
Well Moz did by simply playing some Mecca Stuff, he also played the Fabulous Apollos .... Determination and Singe McGowan... That's What I Want yet it wasn't long before he played some stompers Like.... Hey Sal Ho Ney

Back to me and my second spot was slightly different, started with Stevie Wonder…Contact of Love, Deena Johnson …I’m a Sad Girl, Charmaines…I idolise You, Pearl Jones…Give me Another Chance,
Tobi Lark, Sweep It Out Of The Shed, just let them get their breaths back after Moz’s stomper Spot.
Finished playing some crossover, Dooley Silverspoon….Game Players, Seven day Lover ect.

the Members for your continued support, the Dates and Djs for 2009 have now been sorted out and their will be some new Guest DJs playing at Joe’s for the coming year, don’t forget new memberships will be due on the 2nd of January 2009 Prices £1.50 single and £2.50 per couple and you get your Soul at Joe’s cd full of tunes for 2009,

Novembers Guest Dj (rare soul man ) Dave Truscott has just been asked to play
Ghost in my House or The Snake, and is still in a state of shock horror !!

Decembers guest Djs were Mike Walker & Ste Jones, I have know these Guys from 1971 when they attended the Geraldo club in St. Helens were Myself, Tully and Trev Muhic ran the soul nights. Ste and Mike have been collecting records ever since i've known them, both have a great knowledge about soul records and the soul scene, two top Djs.
They played at the Viaduct Club Earlstown for 10 years and also Newton Cricket Club and now are resident at the new Tetley Walker Soul Club Warrington, they have played at joe's since day one and have always gone down well, I regared these Djs more as friends.
